August 2022 Week 4

This week we finally head off on our van trip.  Its been six weeks since leaving work.  Headed off Tuesday morning did some good kilometres and reach the Murchison River Campsite (Glena Bridge) at Sunset at 6pm.  This free campsite has lots of space and drop toilets.  It was time to test out the instant pot, our cooking instrument of choice.  I decided to make a curry chicken with potatoes.  Good wholesome tucker..  This method of cooking is gentle on power draw as once it is pressurised as only takes small amounts of power to maintain the pressure.  Listened to an audio book "The Courage to be Disliked".

Got up early in the morning around 6am.  For some strange reason I don't have insomnia on the road and waking early is common..  Took a trip to Kalbarri National Park, as was near.  The rock formations and gorge was breath taking and it didn't take long until I go into the chilled nature mood.  Watching eagles catch the wind draft up the gorge with no effort on their behalf.  Eagles slowly circling with large wings expanded out wide.

Talked to a young lady travelling around Australia who was taking photos to sell on the internet.

During the journey noticed the Van pulling to the side of the road.  Noticed that the front tyre was heating up and yes it was 40 psi instead of 51 psi like the other front one.  I filled up pressure at next station.

Decided to do some fishing in river and off the seaside cliffs in Kalbarri. No fish! only caught blowfish.

Went back to same campsite but on other side of river and had a nice cold one before calling it a night.

Had left over curry from last night.

I left early in the morning and got to Carnarvon.

I was told to get a move on if I want to make Broome by some local fishermen.  This was from two fishermen on the bridge who were catching whiting, when I said looks like there is fish here.  Upon walking back to Van was bitten by a local dog who left a small tooth mark and bruising on my calf.  The locals said to the dog, come back you stupid fuckwit.

I had a shower in the Van at Carnarvon and went to the freshwater filling station. this was a very busy place and you have to queue for about 15 minutes.  I left Carnarvon and made my way to the next free campsite (Edaggee Rest Stop).  Then pulled over after lots of driving (Robe River Rest Stop) for another night of rest.

Once again I woke early and  made my way to Karratha and had a free coffee with Terry my daughters boyfriends father (His shout again). Had a good chat and I finally understand what work Terry is doing in Karratha.  I had to make more kms and another free camp (De Grey River Rest Area), Here I had steak and toast in the instant pot another night of rest. I then stopped just out of Broome at Goldwire Freecamp and met two elderly ladies, Janice and Stacy.  Janice has been travelling for 4 years and Stacy husband died and has been on the road for 3 months in a new Motorhome with two dogs Spanner and Racket.  Went for a 30minute walk down the road and meet 4 backpackers and one of them Mario said his car had overheated.  I checked it out and advised them to get it examined by a Mechanic.  Early in the morning I went to Broome to book 2 nights at the Broome Getaway Caravan Park.

I also saw the backpackers again at Coles Broome and offered to assist with removing the water and adding coolant into the radiator as Mario said it will take two weeks for a mechanic to assist.

Decided to watch the Broome sunset at Cable Beach.

Had left over meal at Broome Getaway Campsite and did my washing of both Clothes and Van.  For only $36 a night its a bargain (Dog Friendly too).  Its about 30km out of Broome.  The following day I went to a beach you can drive onto and opened up the Van to let the clothes dry and also update the website as 4G here.  The tide is almost touching the tyres of the Van.  Must admit I was a little scared.  Only have 10 minutes of incoming tide left so keeping my fingers crossed.

Sara arrives today at Broome Airport, so it gives me a few hours to have a swim and play my guitar.  I will take Sara here when she arrives and then back to Broome Getaway Campsite for the night before heading off to Darwin.  After picking Sara I showed her the sights of Broome and then drove the van onto Cable beach.  It was 36 Degrees but ranger told us no swimming as bunch of sharks in the area.  So we relaxed and watched the Sunset eating our salad and salmon dish that I made for a hungry Sara.  Got back to camp at 8pm and a green frog joined us for a shower.

We are wanting to spend more time in Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
