Week 3

Arrived in Cairns and we decided to go to DFO shops and fill up with Supplies and then to Cairns Casino.  We got a spot at the front (after 6pm no tickets required) and Sara won $15.  Then we ended up stealth camping in an industrial area in Cairns.  As Cairns is so hard to find free camps.

In the morning we woke early (6am) and had to visit 3 Coles express stations before finding a $1 coffee that was not out of order.  We then travelled to Palm Cove and did a 30min walk along beach, had shower in van and refilled water tanks.  Lovely beach side resort with lots of people walking their dogs. Then we continue to Daintree forest.  Took the ferry across ($36) to the Daintree and visited 3 walk trails and on one we saw a lizard who was reluctant to give way to tourists from WA.  We also had a four flavoured treat for $7.50 as recommended by our daughter.  Really enjoyed our day in the Daintree as weather was 27 degrees and a cool breeze.  Couldn’t find a campsite to stay so we ended up heading out and stayed at Mosman RV Golf Club for $27.  Sara loved the surprised welcome from two barking Tenterfield dogs.  Who did not return the same vibes.

Decided to get prawns and eat them at Port Douglas during the night.  This town seemed to be very resort orientated.  After a full day we fell asleep instantly at the RV Golf Club.  Upon awakening we headed straight to Mosman Gorge and rather than paying ($27)  to shuttle bus it, we walked to the Gorge.  Was an easy walk and we did over an hour of walking.  Then we found a spot near the river to have a coffee and breaky break.  This was a no swimming spot due to crocs, but naked young European tourists seem to love to take a dip here.  Travelled down to Cairns and visited the Casino then camped at Green patch free camp.  This site had coin showers, but we just used the shower on board again as every penny saved counts.  In the morning we made our way out to two lovely waterfalls (Wallicher and Tchupala falls) in the rainforest, just out of Innisfail.  We then continued on to the Big Gum Boot a must-see big thing in Queensland (lol), better than the Big Banana.  Saw lots of sugar cane being processed and a strange malt smell in the air.  We continued on our journey to Townsville and just before reaching this town spent the night at Bluewater Park RV free camp. Nice sleep and in the morning had a coffee and shower before heading off to do a wash at Elite Laundry in Townsville.  We may spend the night at the BP station here after visiting some shops and Cowboys League Club.  We then stopped at Comfort hill for a free shower.  We then stayed at Proserpine free campsite behind Catholic church.  In the morning we headed to Mackay .  We had shower in abandon lot and had a shower then off to C3 Church.  Lots of Islanders and it was a friendly church but no free coffee. Then off to the Big Mango where I got my first driver reviver cuppa for free.  Sara did most driving and we arrived in Rockhampton free camp at Kershaw Gardens.  One spot left.  We got prawns for $20Kg from the large Stocklands shopping centre nearby.  Rang families (Sutton Men Club and Sara's Sister).
